Can an iPhone Motherboard be Repaired?

Yes, an iPhone motherboard can be repaired in most instances. The first step in iPhone motherboard repair is identifying what the issue is. Because the motherboard acts as the brain of the phone, any observed issue can stem from it. For example, no image, no touch, no cellular service, wifi not working, front or back camera not working, your iPhone not charging, or your iPhone not turning on at all can all result from a motherboard problem that can likely be addressed. Any other function you can think of can also be the result of a motherboard issue.

Once we are sure of the problem, we start to diagnose the board by measuring the suspected voltage lines with a multimeter underneath a microscope or jumping straight to replacing the problem IC's. This is decided both by referencing previous experience as well as by experimenting with new research and development with every new series of iPhone released.

This can best be understood by viewing the referenced video on this page; the iPhone 15 Pro not charging and no touch video.

In the video, we rely on past experience to know that a failed charging IC can result in an iPhone that won't charge, but we also experience a new issue when we see that the touch screen is also not registering any touch inputs. Both of these problems can be a result of failed parts such as the screen itself as well as either the battery or the charging port, but in this case, changing the parts did not fix the problem.

After intensive R&D we also found that there was a paired ROM that needed to be changed along with the charging IC in order to bring back functionality. Without changing this ROM, the issue would persist. This creates a unique challenge in that each time we change the charging IC, we need to make sure we have the specific ROM that goes with it by harvesting the chips from a donor motherboard.

This is just one example of the type of work we do here at iBoard Repair. With every new iPhone series released, we find new signature problems to address and add to our catalog of known solutions.
